We are live in the Philippines. Over the last three months we have been testing our service and starting today we are fully operational. By adding Philippines to Indonesia, we cover the two most populated countries in the region with a potential reach of over 300M people.

During the last three months, we gave access to our service to a selected number of people and we shared our solution with the Telecom Operators in the country. We have received invaluable feedback and insight confirming the interest of pinoys in the service.

Starting today, if you are a customer of Globe or Smart, you can send airtime to your friends and family at no cost. And we really mean it, it's free: Send 20 pesos and the other person gets 20 pesos.

We are also in contact with several merchants and Internet sites that will enable Coowry as a mean of payment for the sale of their goods and services.

Go to our website and give it a try. Type your peer's mobile phone and the amount you want to transfer. It's all you need.

Feedback is always welcome. Contact us at contact@coowry.com, through Twitter, @coowry or at our Facebook page.

Why people use Coowry

On November 1st we launched Coowry in Indonesia with the three largest Telecom Operators: Telkomsel, Indosat and XL. This means that 220M people in Indonesia can exchange airtime (or pulsa as it is called over there) with other people, seamlessly, with no friction, no cost and no fees. If you are in Indonesia, you only need to know the mobile phone number of the recipient to send him some airtime, just that, that simple. Give it a try.

We have not made much noise. A few websites are using Coowry to pay their contributors (small payments for simple tasks) and, we introduced Coowry in a small community where they use it for informal peer to peer transactions. The aim was to have some initial data to learn about customer behavior.

The data and behavior have reinforced the value proposition of Coowry and proved the benefits for the users, the Internet Agents and the Telecom Operators.

  • Before Coowry, contributors waited for several months to reach the minimum threshold to get paid. With Coowry, they are rewarded in airtime every week. For the website it is free and for the contributors, this reward system has encouraged their commitment with the website and they have increased their activity. They use the airtime they receive to reload their mobile phones, but also, to send airtime as a gift to their family and friends.

  • Coowry has a strong viral effect. Starting with just a few members of a small community, Coowry has spread to thousands of users.

  • Airtime is a valuable asset, with the same credibility as cash, but airtime is digital and people do not need to be face to face to exchange it. People use airtime as a way to exchange value, for small and casual expenses and to compensate each other back.

For us, this is a great achievement and we encourage all of you to try Coowry and share and give airtime with your loved ones in these special days.

Agents dashboard reloaded

Today we are releasing the newest version (v0.10.0) of our dashboard for businesses. It packs a load of new features alongside a new interface, fully redesigned from scratch. This is the result of hard work on the three cornerstones of the Coowry experience for you as a business:

  • Your balance. Knowing the current status of your balance (the difference between purchases and settlements) is as important as knowing its evolution over time. In the new FTC page you can now see the history of your balance and the amount of trades in each one of your networks.
  • Your customers. In this version we also introduced a new tab to monitor your customers (the people you've traded with), together with some nice statistics to give an overall vision of their distribution by time, country and network.
  • Your trades. The building blocks of the Coowry experience are the trades, and as such, they deserve special attention. Being able to quickly sort through them is key to understanding your business. This new version gives you a lot of tools to filter trades by a variety of parameters (date, purchase, settlement, value, status, etc.) and compute their value in your currency. All done in real time.

Last but not least, the dashboard home shows an overview of the most relevant data contained each of the sections: balances, customers, trades and bulks.

All in all, we hope this update makes the dashboard pleasant to use and, more importantly, accurately show your business' key analytics. Please have fun with it, use it, break it, and then tell us about it!

After the successful event at the South Summit, we are now heading North, to the Slush Start-up conference, that will take place in Helsinki on November 11th and 12th.

Slush is the focal point for startups and tech talent to meet with top-tier international investors, executives and media. In 2014, Slush brought together over 14.000 attendees and more than 3500 companies for the two-day event. More than 750 investors came to Helsinki to meet startups in nearly 3.800 pre-booked meetings.

Slush is a non-profit event organized by a community of entrepreneurs, investors, students and music festival organizers. Although Slush has grown from a 300-person event to become one of the leading events of its kind in the world, the philosophy behind it has remained the same: to help the next generation of great, world-conquering companies forward.

We have been invited by EIT Digital, a leading European open innovation organization that has selected Coowry for its Business Development Accelerator.

If you want to hear how we enable a friction-less micro-transaction solution for more than 3B people, stop at our booth for a chat, we love to share what we do and learn from others.

Welcome API doc

We are thrilled to announce that we now have a comprehensive API documentation. It fully describes the functioning of the Coowry Transactional Core.

It is built using Slate, a generator of beautiful and easy-to-use static documentation. The aim of its design is simplicity: An index on the left allows to view the general structure of the API in one quick glance; the middle section is reserved for a concise explanation of the various flows and resources; Finally, the right section is where examples (in each of the bindings) are placed.

We hope that this new resource is informative and makes it easier for developers to use our API, which in the end is the true objective of any API documentation.

As of right now the documentation is private. Do not hesitate to send us a mail at contact@coowry.com if you want access or have any questions.
